Sandee

Sandee – Voice of an Angel

Sandée

What was Sandee’s real name?It was Sandra Casanas.

I once told my friend that I liked San-dee, and she looked at me like I was crazy. Why?
Because Sandee pronounced her name Sahn-day.

Where was she from?
She was born in South Florida, where she died on December 15, 2008.

How did her career lift-off?
She was chosen to perform on a national conert tour with Menudo, when Ricky Martin was a member, and the Cover Girls.

What has she been known for?
She always embraced a Latin approach to dance music.

What group was she a member of?
She was one-third of the Grammy-nominated all-girl group Exposé. The other members were Aléjandra, aka “Alé” Lorenzo, who was known for “I Wanna Know” and “Stop Me if I Fall in Love”; and Laurie Miller.

Who formed Exposé, and when?
It was formed in 1984 by Lewis Martinee, a dance producer, under the original name X-Posed.

So did anything other than the name change?
Yes, indeed. Expose’s entire lineup has changed. After Sandee sang on major hits like “Exposed to Love” and “Point of No Return”, Exposé split up. By the time Exposé recorded its third single, “Come Go With Me”, a whole new lineup was in place, consisting of Ann Curless, Jeanette Jurado and Gioia Bruno.

Wait a minute – when I listen to Exposé’s first album, “Exposure”, I don’t hear Sandee on “Point of No Return” and “Exposed to Love”. Why not?
For the album, Lewis Martinee decided rerecord those two hits using the new lineup’s voices. While the original single version of “Point of No Return” had already hit the market, Sandee’s voice is gone from the group’s debut album.

Ouch! What did Sandee do next?
After licking her wounds, Sandee pursued a solo career with a few successes of her own, including Freestyle jam “Notice Me.” Sandee then recorded a solo album, “Only Time Will Tell”, which had the big hit single “Love Desire”.

Rest, in peace, Sandee. Your fans love you and miss you.
